Bowler plaque - Ship and Porthole

Erection date: 1995

We failed to find this plaque in Dec-Jan 2017. It shows a ship on the sea at the centre of a porthole. This cast-iron roundel is one of 22 - see Bowler's page for more details.

Site: Bowler plaque - Ship and Porthole (1 memorial)

E1, Artillery Row

Bowler’s booklet says this plaque is in Artillery Row but also refers to 13 Sandy’s Row, the home of Ayub Ali who ran a restaurant on Commercial Street (see the other sailor-related plaque). He helped Bengali men from the seafaring Syhlet region who arrived in London in search of a better life. No 13 is on the east side of Sandy’s Row, the last old building before Frying Pan Alley.
