Erection date: 1753
Georgivs II {Latin for 'George II'}
Erected here in 1753. Previously it was at Cannons, the Duke of Chandos's house. It is said to have been made in 1724 but that seems late since Chandos lost his fortune in 1720. Societe Jersiaise (2020: a dead link) provides more photos of this statue, and here we learn that the statue, which looks to be of stone, is actually lead painted white. Which leaves us puzzled - why does it appear to be so badly weathered? Would acid rain eat into lead?
