The world's first regular high definition television service was inaugurated here by the BBC, 2 November 1936.

The BBC (who else?) have a good post about their time here. Pity this plaque had no room to mention John Logie Baird.

The plaques on on the south face of the tower, either side of the entrance. Londonist reported that in the WW2 Blitz (while BBC radio was off air) this mast was used to baffle the German bombers - "it transmitted in the right frequency range to confuse the navigators".
