Inscription

Unveiled by Admiral Sir Caspar John G.C.B. 3rd June 1972.
This carving by Jacob Epstein commemorates the years 1909-1914 when he lived and worked in a studio on this site which was originally Sir Thomas More’s orchard.
This setting was designed by Stephen Gardiner.

The text is inscribed on the reverse of the relief.

The garden was created in 1964. The land was part of Sir Thomas More’s marriage gift to his daughter Margaret and William Roper in 1521.
