Statue

Lord Holland statue

Erection date: 1926

Inscription

{On the front of the plinth:}
Lord Holland, born MDCCLXXIII, died MDCCCXL {1773 - 1840}

Yet anonther lazy London statue - see Peabody for our log of all the seated statues that we've found.

The sculpture is by Watts, with Boehm providing technical casting assistance (we thank Bob Speel for this information). Wikipedia has this being created in 1872 and unveiled in 1926.

Site: Lord Holland statue (1 memorial)

W8, Holland Park

During this (the third) Lord Holland's time Holland House became a social, cultural and political hub, visited by, amongst others,: Byron, Macaulay, Campbell, Disraeli, Dickens, Scott.

The Library Time Machine has a 1980 photo showing this statue, somewhere in Holland Park, but on dry land and on a different base. We wonder if the pond was created around it to protect it from vandals.
