Inscription

{On a bronze plaque attached to the front of the plinth:}
Isambard Kingdom Brunel, 1806 - 1859.

This belongs to the select group of seated London statues - see Peabody. The same sculptor has a standing statue of Brunel in Bristol, at the other end of the line.

2014: IanVisits has a post showing the "remains of structures built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for his Great Western Railway .... unearthed near Paddington".

2015: We came across this statue in a new location - between platforms 8 and 9.

2018: We found a Getty Image of this statue in a different, earlier, location, in 1996 at the top of the stairs inside the station concourse, before they were remodelled.
