Telegraph Cottage no longer stands but the name tells some of its history, in the days when semaphore was the best method of telegraphing (meaning: writing at a distance) - told on Diamond Geezer's page. This location was on the route to the south coast. See West Square for a telegraph station on the route to Chatham and Deal on the east coast. Vauxhall and Kennington is useful.
