{Beside a relief of the Bryant & May logo, an Ark-like vessel on the water, with 'Security' on its side:}
Near this spot stood the Testimonial Fountain erected by public subscription in 1872 to commemorate the part played by Bryant & May and their work people in securing the abandonment of the proposed match tax.
Demolished 1953.
This plaque is a rarity: a memorial to a memorial! The site of the fountain was actually a little way to the west, opposite Bow Church station. Here's our page for this lost fountain.
