{On the base of the cross:}
To the honoured memory of our fellow worshipers at the church of Ss Peter and Paul, Upper Teddington who fell in the great war.
1914 - 1918
They endured as seeing him who is invisible. {Heb. 11:27}.
May they rest in peace.
{On a stone laid in the ground in front of the cross:}
1939 - 1945
{A list of 10 names in two columns in alphabetical order. For the names see Subjects Commemorated.}
This memorial used to be in Puzzle Corner because we were too blind and ignorant to be able to read the letters at the centre of the cross. This graphical spaghetti rather reminds us of the logo for the 2012 Olympics. Our thanks to Wim Van Mierlo and to Helen Magowan for solving this puzzle. The letters are, of course, the Christogram ‘IHS’ or the name of Jesus, written in uncial script. That’s the one used on the ancient documents in all the best mysteries, often telling of hidden treasure.
