In the inscription "they gave their lives" is given as a quotation but its source is not obvious.
When we visited, in addition to a few standard issue poppy wreaths, there were some rather lovely large pebbles painted with red poppies - you can see them in our photo.
The figure of Christ is in marble which might explain why the cross listed so badly until it was restored in 2010.

The church had its origins in a 1904 iron mission church. This permanent church was built 1910-11. The church was designed by E. T. Dunn, who also designed St Luke's Church, Ilford.
