The regiment was formed from the union of the 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot and the 56th (West Essex) Regiment of Foot. Following action in all major conflicts it was gradually disbanded in the years after WW2.

Resident of the Central Ward, Hendon who served and died in WW1.
Had served in the 2nd Life Guards. At the time of his death was an in-pensioner at Chelsea Hospital and a patient in the Infirmary.
Employed at the Streatham bus garage. Served and was killed in WW1.
