Frédéric Chopin

Categories: Music / songs, Seriously Famous

Countries: France, Poland

Composer. Born Zelazowa Wola, Poland of a French emigrant father and Polish mother. Left Poland aged 20, never to return. Despite his long romantic liaison with novelist George Sand (Aurore Dudevant) his orientation is often questioned. After they separated his health failed and in 1848 he paid a long visit to Britain where he gave his last public performance at Guildhall.

Died Paris. One of his last requests was that his eldest sister Ludwika take his heart to Poland to be buried at a local church. But it was not left in peace - Wikipedia has a whole page dedicated to its afterlife. See Thomas Hardy for others buried apart from their hearts.
