Edward, Duke of Kent (1735)

Categories: Royalty

Edward Augustus was the 4th son of George III and the father of Queen Victoria.

In 1818 the only legitimate grandchild of George III died, leaving the succession shaky. The three unmarried sons of the king rushed to marry and produce an heir. 53-years-old Edward won, marrying Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburn-Saalfeld who, a year later, produced the child who would become Queen Victoria.

Died at Sidmouth, Devon when his daughter was not yet a year old and only a few days before his father.
