From British History: "... a Bedford carpenter's son who had made his name in the 1820s and '30s as a speculative builder in the South Street area of Mayfair." That page has a lot of detail about the development in Knightsbridge. Gave his address as South Street in 1837 and Putney Heath and Rutland Gate in 1853. Died Brighton.
