Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk

Brought up at the court of Henry VII. A favourite of King Henry VIII. Took possession of the family's estate in Southwark following the death of his uncle Thomas Brandon, in 1510. Henry VIII created him Duke of Suffolk in 1514. He married his third wife, Henry's sister, Mary Tudor, in 1515. Commanded English troops in France on a number of occasions. Supported, and benefited from, Henry's dissolution of the monasteries.

On Mary's death in 1533 Charles married his 14-year old ward by whom he had two sons. Died Guildford.
