John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland

Led the government of the under-age King Edward VI 1550-3, and on his death unsuccessfully attempted to install Lady Jane Grey and her husband (his son) Lord Guilford Dudley on the throne. Executed on Tower Hill having very publicly converted to Catholicism the day before.
