Commander James White

Categories: Armed Forces, Transport

Full name James Keaney White. Took command of HMS Peruvian in October 1814. Sailed to Bermuda and in June 1815 took Major Percy with the Waterloo Dispatch from Ostend to Broadstairs and on into London. The Peruvian, still with Commander White was part of the flotilla that took Napoleon to St Helena. To ensure the security of that island, White and another captain took possession of nearby Ascension Island in October 1815. More at Wikipedia.

Our Picture source says it shows a brig-sloop of the same class as HMS Peruvian c.1830.
