Architect and designer. Born Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo. In 1874, he travelled to Italy with John Ruskin to study the architecture. He later opened his own architectural practice in London, and in 1882 co-founded the Century Guild of Artists. As well as designing several houses in London, he was a pioneer of the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style) movement.

Baptized at St Marylebone. Designed the Drury Lane Theatre. Died, unmarried, in Stanhope Street, York Place, Regent's Park, leaving everything to his long-time servant, Martha.
Established in South Kensington on the site now occupied by the V&A Museum.
1878 architect of the Stratford Martyrs memorial. For a time he worked with William Jacques.
