Daphne Doreen Abbs

Daphne Doreen Abbs was born as Daphne Doreen Miles on 25 September 1930. She was the youngest of the three children of Gilbert Redvers Miles (1900-1958) and Lily Rose Miles née Lines (1901-1974). Her birth was registered in the 4th quarter of 1930 in the Hampstead registration district. Her elder sisters were Rosemary P. Miles (1923-2012) and June Iris Miles (1928-2007).

From 1932 her parents were shown on electoral registers as living at 8 Eresby Road, Kilburn, but in the 1939 England and Wales register she is shown as a schoolgirl living at 42 Low Street, Hoxne, Hartismere, Suffolk, the home of Thomas Henry Lines (1913-1994) and Violet H. Lines (b.1918).

From 1952, when she was qualified to vote, she is shown on the electoral registers with her parents at 8 Eresby Road, Kilburn. She was a model for Marks and Spencer and married William Samuel Abbs (1926-2010), the marriage being registered in the 2nd quarter of 1954 in the Hampstead registration district. Electoral registers from 1956 to 1965 show them at 10 Eresby Road, London, NW6, next door to her parents at 8 Eresby Road. Telephone directories until 1973 show her husband still listed at 10 Eresby Road, but from 1974 he was the telephone subscriber at Flat 177 Webheath, Netherwood Street, NW6, where she continued to be shown on the electoral registers until she died, aged 79 years, on 5 December 2009.

Daphne and her husband worked for the Webheath Tenants Association for over 30 years.
