Canadian Firefighters

Categories: Armed Forces

Countries: Canada

The idea of the fire fighters volunteering to assist Britain was developed between the British government and the then Canadian Prime Minister, Mackenzie King.
The Canadian fire fighters museum website says that actually, 422 men volunteered for service. Before the corps returned home in late 1944, thousands of people lined the streets in London to watch them march to take the salute in front of Canada House.
