Treasurer of St Paul's Cathedral in 1979 and was Canon of St Paul's from 1948 to 1981.
Lewis John Collins was born on 23 March 1905 in Hawkhurst, Kent, one of the four children of Arthur Collins (b.1873) and Hannah Priscilla Collins née Edwards (1873-1926).
In the 1911 census he was shown as aged 6 years and living in a 9 roomed property called Holly Grove in Station Road, Hawkhurst, Kent, with his parents and two of his siblings: Margaret Priscilla Collins (1901-2000) and Dorothy Elizabeth Collins (1903-1996), together with a female general domestic servant. His father was described as a builder's manager.

He died, aged 77 years, on 31 December 1982, his death being registered in the 1st quarter of 1983 in the Lambeth registration district, London. His body was buried in St Paul's Cathedral. Probate records show that his address had been 11 Rennie Court, Stamford Street, London, SE1 and that when probate was granted on 8 April 1983 his effects totalled £32,081.
