Eleanor Rathbone

Politician and social reformer. Born Eleanor Florence Rathbone at 14 Prince's Gardens, according to the ODNB, our trusted source; others say Liverpool. She made an extensive study of the position of widows under the poor law and became a leading advocate for family allowances in Britain. Entering parliament in 1929, she espoused many causes including the franchise for Indian women. She was a vigorous worker on behalf of refugees, and became a supporter of Zionism. Died at 26 Hampstead Lane, Highgate.

Remembering Eleanor Rathbone confirm that she was born in London. That website is a good place for more information on Eleanor.
