Categories: Benefactor, Medicine

Countries: USA

Surgeon. Born Russell Claude Brock at 840 Old Kent Road, London. While working in America he developed an interest in thoracic surgery. He pioneered several new techniques, including open-heart surgery. Knighted in 1954 and created a life peer in 1965. Died in Guy's Hospital, London.

Our picture source and his Wikipedia page give much information about his life. Probate records show that his last home address had been 3 Parkside Gardens, Wimbledon and that when probate was granted on 24 September 1980 his effects totalled £92,607.

The Lord Brock Memorial Trust (inactive by 2021) was set up to preserve Britain’s oldest surviving operating theatre for the public.
