Mistress of Charles II. Born in France into a noble French family. As the king's mistress she received large sums of money and in 1673 the titles of Baroness Petersfield, Countess of Fareham and Duchess of Portsmouth were granted to her for life. She was on good terms with the queen, Catherine of Braganza, and remained in the King's thoughts at his end.
