Mothers' Union

International Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide. Founded by Mary Sumner near Winchester, in the parish where her husband was rector. With the support of the Bishop of Winchester it rapidly spread throughout the UK and the British Empire. Formalised as a national organisation in 1896. Queen Victoria became its patron in 1897, her Diamond Jubilee year.
