George Frederic Still was born on 28 February 1868 in Holloway, Middlesex (now Greater London), the fourth of the eight children of George Still (1834-1885) and Eliza Still née Andrew (1834-1914). His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1868 in the Islington registration district, Middlesex (now Greater London).
In the 1871 census he is shown as aged 3 years, a scholar, living at 5 Wray Crescent, Islington, with his father, two sisters, Emily Andrew Still (1869-1899) & Bertha Still (1870-1969), together with a governess, a nurse and a female domestic servant. His father was described a clerk in H.M. Customs.
When the 1881 census was undertaken he was still listed as a scholar residing at the same address with both his parents, his seven sisters: Emily; Bertha; Eliza Andrew Still (1862-1948); Jessie Still (1863-1932); Emma Still (1865-1923); Edith Still (1872-1970) and Alice Still (b.1875), together with a female domestic servant. His father was still described as clerk in H.M. Customs.
On 12 March 1884, aged 16 years, he was, together with his elder sister, Emma, baptised in St Mark's Church, Tollington Park, Middlesex, where the baptismal register confirms the family was now living at 10 Wray Crescent, Islington and that his father was shown as a surveyor in H.M. Customs.
The 1891 census confirms that he was still residing at 10 Wray Crescent, Islington, with his widowed mother, five sisters: Eliza; Emma; Bertha; Edith and Alice, together with a female domestic servant. He was described as a student of medicine whilst his mother was shown as living on own means. Emma was an artistic designer, Bertha was a type writer and Edith & Alice were shown as scholars.
He was shown as a physician in the 1901 census still living at 10 Wray Crescent with his mother, his sister Emma and a female general domestic servant. Both his mother and sister were described as living on their own means. Telephone directories from 1904 show him listed as a physician at 114 Harley Street, West London.
When he completed his 1911 census return form, he described himself as physician, aged 43 years and single, living in a 12 roomed property called Craigie House, 3 Waverley Road, Crouch End, Hornsey, Middlesex (now Greater London), with his mother, three sisters: Emma; Edith and Alice, a niece called Lilian Madeline Treweek (1898-1971) who was the daughter of his sister Eliza, together with two female domestic servants.
The 1915 edition of the Marylebone & St Johns Wood Directory confirms that he was living at 28 Queen Anne Street, Cavendish Square, Marylebone. He was still listed here on the 1939 England and Wales Register together with a female housekeeper and that he was still a single man and a physician.
Probate records show that his address had been Harnham Croft, Salisbury, Wiltshire, when he died, aged 74 years, on 28 June 1941. His death was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1941 in the Salisbury registration district. His body was cremated and his ashes were buried in Salisbury Cathedral churchyard. Probate was granted on 4 October 1941, jointly to Allan Ernest Treweek FRCS and Francis Norman Stocker a commercial manager. His effects totalled £119,354-8s-4d.
