Sir William Bowman

Ophthalmic surgeon and anatomist. Best known for his research using microscopes to study various human organs, though during his lifetime he pursued a successful career as an ophthalmologist.

Born Cheshire. Died at Joldwynds, his home in Holmbury St Mary, Surrey which he had commissioned in 1870 from Philip Webb. This house was demolished in 1930 and replaced with a modernist house.
