Artist and illustrator known especially for his watercolours of women. Born Edinburgh. Died London.

Having browsed his work in gallery Google we can say that there is much to admire, we particularly like the compositions, but Wikipedia's comment is telling: "He enjoyed considerable commercial success but little respect from art critics, who were disturbed by a perceived crassness in his eroticized treatment of the female figure".

This 1920s photo from the National Portrait Gallery surprisingly shows a serious, restrained man.
