Squadron Commander Richard Bell Davies, Royal Naval Air Service.

Born in Topstone Road, now Nevern Place, SW5. Enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1901 and then in 1910 took private flying lessons so that, in 1913, he joined the Royal Naval Air Service. on 19 November 1915 he was on a bombing raid over Bulgaria when one of his colleague's planes was shot down. Davies landed, picked up the other pilot and flew back to safety. This heroism earned him the VC. Died Royal Hospital Haslar, Hampshire, a military hospital.
