Our colleague Andrew Behan provides: "William Francis Dewey was born in Portsea, Hampshire, the son of William Francis and Augusta Bloodworth Dewey. His father was a General Practitioner and a Licentiate of Apothecaries Hall. In March 1851 the family were living at Copps Court, Gold Street, Tiverton, Deven. By April 1871 he was living with his widowed mother at 11 Devonshire Road, Islington and he was the Chief Clerk to the Vestry of Islington. On the 19th August 1873 he married Emily Gibbon Marston at the Holy Trinity Church, Coventry, Warwickshire, and they went on to have at least five children, Marston, Carrie, Allan, Edward William and Leonard. By 1878 the family were living at 21 Tollington Place, Tollington Park, but had moved by April 1881 to 14 Wray Crescent, Islington. By 1893 they had relocated to 476 Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park where he remained until the time of his death. By 1901 he had become the Town Clerk of the Borough of Islington.
