Site of armaments manufacture, ammunition proofing, and explosives research for the British armed forces. Its origins go back to the 17th century, and it continued producing armaments and associated materials until its demise. Woolwich Royal Ordnance Factories closed in 1967. The Royal Arsenal ceased to be a military establishment in 1994.The vast area has now been developed as a residential estate.
