{To each side there is a, seated stone figure. All the stone carving is quite weather-worn but it seems that these figures were quite abstract to start with.
The figure on the left points at a scroll and inscribed above is:}

The figure on the right clutches what might be board or large book and inscribed above is:}

1914 - 1918.

Present at the unveiling: Princess Clementine of Belgium, several members of the Royal Family, M. Delacroix - the Belgian Premier, Lord Curzon - the Foreign Secretary.
