Air Chief Marshall {sic}, Lord Dowding, 1882 - 1970, leader of Fighter Command, lived in a house on this site 1941 - 1951.
This plaque (complete with a misspelling) replaces the English Heritage original which was erected on the previous house on this site, the house in which Dowding lived.

This may have been some sort of official address but it seems he actually lived in Cannes for those 30 years.
We have visited this area many times, but only recently noticed this well-hidden little plaque.
Plaque unveiled on 25 June 1999, the centennial of the formation of the International Council of Nurses.

There are two alcoves, placed some distance apart so we have only photoed one. Both of them have both memorials.
