Christ Church WW1 memorial - Hampstead

Inscription

{List of 18 names in alphabetical sequence, with rank and regiment.}

The lower section of the cross is inscribed with a list of 18 names. There is no heading but we think "WW1" is a fair guess, confirmed by the internal plaque.

Site: Christ Church WW1 memorial - Hampstead (1 memorial)

NW3, Hampstead Square, Christ Church

As you know, we don't generally collect memorials inside buildings, but on Geograph Andrew found a WW1 plaque inside this church which lists 66 names, many more names than the 18 we transcribed off the cross outside. We don't understand the discrepancy since there are only 9 names that appear on both memorials: Benwell, Brinklow, Coles A & P, Crampton, Jenkins, Kenchatt H, O'Rorke, Sheehy.

The names on the cross were quite difficult to read so we have taken the spelling from the internal plaque where appropriate.
