Henrietta & Samuel Barnett

Inscription

Greater London Council
Dame Henrietta Barnett, 1851 - 1936, founder of Hampstead Garden Suburb and Canon Samuel Barnett, 1844 - 1913, social reformer.

While they lived there they called this "St Jude's Cottage". Initially it was a weekend retreat from Whitechapel, where Samuel was the vicar of St Jude's Church. They lived and worked here 1873 - 1907. She sold it on his death in 1913 and moved to South Square.
