Statue

Queen Victoria statue - Victoria Square

Erection date: 2007

Inscription

{Plaque at base of statue:}
Victoria regina regnum victoriosum incipiens, sculpted by Catherine Laugel.
{The Latin translates as 'Queen Victoria at the start of her victorious reign'.}

The bronze statue depicts the Queen as she would have looked when she started her reign, in 1837, and when the square was first laid out, in 1839. Thanks again to David Hopkins for the translation.
