Samuel Taylor Coleridge - N6

Inscription

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, English poet and critic, lived in Highgate Village for nineteen years and in this house from 1823 until his death in 1834.
St. Pancras Borough Council

In 1816 to help cure his laudanum addiction Coleridge moved in with his doctor friend James Gilman, in Moreton House, Pond Square. Coleridge stayed for the rest of his life, moving to The Grove address with the Gilmans in 1823. The cure was never achieved and Coleridge is known to have acquired supplies of opium from Dunn's the chemist at Townshend Yard.
