Site: South Bank - pavement mosaics (10 memorials)

SE1, South Bank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall / Purcell Room

These mosaics are laid in the pavement in a rather sad, out the way, corner of the South Bank, at street level, near the non-main entrance to the QE Hall and the Purcell Room. The man in our picture might be looking at them, if there was any chance that he knew they were there. An odd group of people to be gathered together under the high-walk on the South Bank.   Theatre and sport seem to be the twin themes.  We were delighted to be introduced to Bella Burge.

Some of the mosaics are signed and have a date, '07, but the names are difficult to read and we've probably got them wrong.

2025: Wallpaper reported that the nearby concrete undercroft of the Southbank Centre, which has functioned as a skate park since it was built, has been recreated in a skatewear shop Seoul in Seoul, concrete pillars and all.
