Site: Lee Rigby - pavement plaque (1 memorial)
SE18, Wellington Street
The plaque was laid secretly at night, near to the site of Rigby's murder.
Greenwich Council feared that it would attract right wing activists, and pointed out that there were already memorials at the nearby Royal Garrison Church of St George, and in Rigby's hometown of Middleton, Manchester. In June 2019, the council, in consultation with Rigby's family planted a memorial tree with a plaque at a location further down the road. The pavement slab was removed and given to the family. Our photograph of the plaque is from this website.
