Site: Turnham Green Church Hall (1 memorial)
W4, Heathfield Gardens, Heathfield House School
The "Turnham Green Church Hall" above the entrance door is a very nice example of Arts and Crafts detailing. The building is now the main site for Heathfield House School.
When we first found this foundation stone in Summer 2016, it was obscured by the plants with red flowers. So we made a note to go back. October 2018 a large grey planter/bench had been built across the stone. A helpful man doing some maintenance let us in through the gate and by leaning over, pulling the plants to one side and moving some soil out the way we could read an extra line but we can also see that there is yet more text.
Various information boards nearby refer to the Battle of Turnham Green, fought on 13th November 1642. It took place over Acton Green, Acton Green Common, and a large area south of both sites, down towards Chiswick House. There seems to be no memorial as such so this seems as good a place as any to mention it.
