Photographer and local historian. Born at 209 Evelyn Street, Deptford. He published 'Reminiscences of Old Deptford' in 1895. In 1911 he joined the Daily Mirror as a photographer, which was the first newspaper to print photographs. Died at 26 Geoffrey Road, Deptford.
We can't find a picture of Sturdee himself so we have chosen one of his own photographs to represent him. The picture on the right is his photograph of Fowlers Troop parading the Deptford Jack in the Green (a former local May Day custom).
Never having heard the name Thankful(l) we are surprised to find we have two on our database, the other being Thankful Owen.
2021: We came across this page at Old Deptford History, which gives some of Sturdee's addresses and has photos of one of his books: "Reminiscences of Old Deptford".
