John Andrews was born in 1959 and in September 2001 he married Tracy Lovick (1964-2004) in the Hertford and Ware registration district, Hertfordshire.

According to the BBC News website he lived in Chingford, Essex and was staying in a beach front bungalow with his wife at the Charlie Beach Resort in Phi Phi, Thailand.
