Valerie Carroll Awcock

Categories: Tragedy

Countries: Southeast Asia

From The Times website we know that Valerie Carroll Moody was born on 19 December 1947. She was the daughter of Jack Moody (1921-2008) and Ivy Chadburn Moody née Carr (1923-2017) and her birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1948 in the Barrow-in-Furness Registration District, Lancashire (now Cumbria).

She married John Vaughan (1947-1986) in the 4th quarter of 1969 in the Hatfield Registration District, Hertfordshire and they had one child, Claire Vaughan (1973-2004).

Her husband died in May 1986 and she was remarried to Andrew R. Awcock (b.1953) in October 1986 in the St Albans Registration District, Hertfordshire.

Her daughter married David John Hickman (1967-2004) in August 1994.

The Times website shows that she was a retired tailoress and that she and her husband were on 26 December 2004 engulfed by water from the tsunami as they tried to run for safety from the beach. Her husband survived but she, aged 57 years, together with her daughter and son-in-law were drowned.

She is shown as 'Valerie Awcock' on the Tsunami memorial in the Darwin Garden Centre, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, SW7.
