Commemorated on a memorial as having served in, and survived, WW1.

Soldier,. born in Plymouth. He was a sergeant in the 1st Battalion, the Lancashire Fusiliers. On 25th April at Gallipoli, Turkey, soldiers landing on the beach faced fire from hidden machine guns causing many casualties. Those surviving however rushed up and cut the wire entanglements. They eventually gained control of the cliffs.
Richards, along with five other members of the regiment were elected for the award of the Victoria Cross.
