Bernard Ashley

Designer and company director. Born in Brixton. He married Laura Mountney in 1949 and together they designed and printed tea towels and scarves. The enterprise gradually expanded and eventually comprised over 200 shops. After Laura's death in 1985, the company was floated on the stock market and was many times oversubscribed. He was knighted in 1987.
