Charles Gibson

Charles William Gibson was born on 27 June 1925, the eldest of the three sons of Charles Gibson (1898-1945) and Ellen Beatrice Maud Kent Gibson née Tayler (1901-1951). His father was a motor driver and a younger brother of John Gibson (1893-1917) whose name also appears of the war memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Hoxton. His birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1925 in the Holborn registration district.

He had two brothers; Derek James Gibson (1930-2009) and John F. Gibson (b.1934) whose births were registered in the Shoreditch registration district. 

Electoral registers from 1929 to 1936 show their parents listed at 34 Taplow Street, Hoxton and in 1937 at 46 Cavendish Buildings, 9 Allen Street, Finsbury. From 1938 onwards they were shown at 2a Chillingworth Road, Islington.

He was enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, service number 14421995, when he died of wounds, aged 19 years, on 14 August 1944 and was buried in La Saliere, Cavaldos, France. On 8 April 1946 his body was exhumed and reburied in Plot 7, Row F, Grave 13 in the Saint Charles de Percy War Cemetery, 14350 Valdallière, France.
