Chairman Streets Committee, City of London, 1959 and 1963.
Andrew Behan has researched this man: Dudley Gordon Mills was born on 5 February 1908 in Leyton, Essex, the second of the three sons of William James Mills (1861-1941) and Agnes Elizabeth Mills née Wavell (1875-1960). His father was a managing director of a fish company and he was baptised on 11 March 1908 at All Saints Church, Leyton. The 1911 census shows him living with his parents, his elder brother, Eric James Mills (1907-1935), a general servant and a nursemaid at 'Park View', Aldermans Hill, Palmers Green. His younger brother, Reginald Cuthbert Mills was born in 1912 (and died in 1990).
In 1929 he married Sylvia Ethel Joy (1904-2000) in Edmonton but they later divorced. Telephone directories dated 1938 & 1939 show him residing at 39 Leigh Heath Court, London Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. In early 1939 he married Nora Amelia Savage (1905-1983). She had been born Nora Ameila Hiscock and had married a Reginald W. Savage in 1924 but was also divorced. The 1939 England and Wales Register confirms them living at 39 Leigh Heath Court, with his occupation being recorded as a wholesale fishmonger.
The 1944 edition of the local telephone directory shows his address as 'North Lodge' Warley Place, Great Warley, Brentwood, Essex, but from 1946 they list him at Hutton Croft, Mount Avenue, Hutton, Brentwood, Essex. Electoral registers from 1949 to 1965 show that he had an address at 25 Monument Street, London, E.C.3 in which he was entitled to vote in local elections, but not parliamentary elections. He died, aged 64 years, on 22 January 1973 and probate records show his home address remained as Hutton Croft, Mount Avenue, Hutton, Brentwood, Essex. His estate totalled £49,627.
