Edward Bowman

Known as Ted Bowman, he was a volunteer head gardener at All Hallows Church Gardens, 1970 - 2014. From this report of his funeral we learn that he was also chair of the Trustees of Borough Market and the Warden of the Great Account of United St Saviour's Charity. He was involved in other local charities.

Our picture source also has more information about Bowman. "Born in Borough Road in 1927... After service in the Army he married Hilda at St George's in 1952 and moved into a Church Commissioners flat off Union Street where he lived for the rest of his life. Ted worked just across the river as a printer in Fleet Street. He held office in the Labour Party in Southwark for many years as branch and constituency chairman."

The picture is captured "Ted Bowman (centre) pictured at a Labour Party event in June 2013". It's possible that the lady to the right of the photo is Hilda but we don't know.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, states that the England and Wales Death Index 1989-2022 shows Edward Bowman was born on 26 March 1927 and that he died, aged 86 years, on 25 March 2014, the day before his 87th birthday.
