Educationalist and inventor of the kindergarten. Born Germany. Student of Pestalozzi. We first heard of Froebel when studying the great Frank Lloyd Wright whose mother, determined that baby Frank would grow up be an architect, used the 'Froebel Gifts' (wooden building blocks) for his home education. Wright later said "The maple wood blocks . . . are in my fingers to this day."
