Guardsman Frank Leslie Harman

Frank Leslie Harman was born on 20 January 1922, the elder of the two children of Frank Harman (1887-1969) and Edith Harman née Parsler (1896-1952). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1922 in the Kingston registration district, Surrey.

In the 1939 England and Wales register he is recorded as a milk roundsman living at 59 Fullers Avenue, Surbiton, Surrey, with his parents and his brother Thomas Harman (1924-2000). His father's occupation was shown as a baker's table hand and his brother as a greengrocer's assistant.

He was serving as a Guardsman in the 6th Battalion, Grenadier Guards, service number 2623088, when he was killed in action, aged 21 years, on 10 September 1943 and was buried near where he died. His body was later exhumed and on 13 April 1944 was reburied in Plot 4, Row F, Grave 29, in the Salerno War Cemetery, SS 18 Tirrena Inferiore, 84090 Pagliarone SA, Italy.

He is also commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's website.
